Sushi!

I purchased and received a new toy this week:

Oyama 10 Cup Rice Cooker
I think I'm in love! And here is the best part:

Stainless steel interior! No plastic or nonstick, and therefore less worry about chemicals leaching into the rice. I tried it out for the first time today to make some sushi rice (sumeshi), with great success:

I made a cucumber (kappa) roll, a spicy tuna roll, and a sweet egg (tamago-yaki) roll. I also made an avocado roll for James. This was the second time that I made sushi, and it was definitely an improvement over last time. I learned the secret to proper sumeshi is to add rice vinegar and sugar to the rice; I missed that last time, and the rice was a bit bland. The tamago-yaki turned out delicious - added 1/2 Tablespoon sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of soy sauce (shoyu) to one beaten egg. The spicy tuna roll needs a little work, as it didn't turn out very spicy. I think some extra hot sauce and maybe some shoyu might be what it needs next time.

Tonight I made 11 sushi rolls (from 5 cups of rice), so we'll be eating sushi for lunch and dinner tomorrow as well. Can't say I mind :)
